A Different 20m Vertical Antenna

youtube placeholder image

Thanks to Tim (G5FM) for this “different 20m Vertical Antenna.”

According to Tim, a 3/8 wavelength vertical antenna provides several advantages over 1/4 wave, 1/2 wave, and end-fed halfwave (EFHW) vertical antenna systems.

Among the advantages are a shorter radiating element and dual-band operation (20m and 10m bands).

The 3/8 wavelength antenna is a good choice for any portable operation, such as POTA and SOTA.

Here are some comments from Tim (G5TM):

Many of us have used quarter and half-wave vertical antennas. But let’s see how a 3/8 wave vertical will work on 20m. A very useful alternative to the 1/4 and 1/2 wave verticals. With some added bonuses. 73! Tim G5TM October 2026, UK.
