Hy-Gain’s new factory tour
Thanks to Steve (W9SN) for this fascinating walk-through of the new Hy-Gain-Cushcraft-Ameritron-Mirage factory in Indiana.
The new facility will continue to produce some of the most popular Amateur Radio equipment of this decade. Many of these company lines ceased production when MFJ closed.

Simple 2-element vertical antenna
Here’s a simple way to increase the gain of your vertical antenna.
In this video, Tim (K5OHY) shows us how to build and mount a 2-element 20 meter band vertical antenna on a wooden fence. According to Time, this configuration produces a moderate 2.9 dBi gain over a single 1/4 wave vertical antenna.
Tim gives us a list of basic materials and procedures needed to complete this easy-to-do project.

Simple and effective vertical antenna for 10M to 160M
Thanks to William Brenner (N4WRB) for this simple, effective vertical antenna for 10M to 160M.
The antenna system consists of selected Chameleon products, such as the Chameleon URT 1 tuner, Chameleon SS25 telescoping mast, and the Chameleon Capacitiance Hat.
If you can’t make the Chameleon price point, you can build your own from materials found locally or through other online vendors.
The antenna performs well, considering its small size and footprint.

Vertical on the Gutter
Here’s another fascinating HF antenna for those with limited operating space.
In this video, Australian radio amateur Peter Parker (VK3YE) uses a “slim HF whip on a gutter or balcony” to get on the air.
You can build this antenna with locally available parts, so your expenses will be minimal.

Extremely portable and light elevated radial setup
Sometimes, you don’t need an extensive radial system for your POTA-SOTA operations.
In this video, Scott (W3GTR) shows how you can boost the performance of a quarter wavelength vertical antenna with a simple elevated radial system. In Scott’s case, the antenna uses 2 elevated radial wires to complete his antenna installation.
Scott has his entire antenna system contained in an easy-carry pouch with a tripod.

Top 10 Portable HF Antennas
What kind of HF antenna do you want for your next POTA-SOTA field operation?
In this video, Bill (KW4QC) of the “Ham Radio Basics” website, discusses 10 popular portable antennas that work well “in the field.”
These antennas range from the Chameleon Antenna MPAS 2.0 and the Wolf River TIA coil to the Chelegance JNCRadio MC-780 and DX Commander Expedition Antenna.
These HF antennas can also find a place at your home station because of their compact and lightweight features.

Best new portable antenna for POTA & SOTA?
Would you like a new multiband HF antenna for your next SOTA/POTA operation?
If a new HF antenna system is in your future, please check out the DX Commander Venture Portable Antenna from the Martin Lynch & Sons company.
In this video, David (M0TPT) tests the Venture Portable Antenna in an actual field operation.
According to David, this new multiband HF antenna is sturdy, easy to deploy, and works well in an outdoor environment. The antenna can be used at your home station as well.

Easy way installing radials
According to Callum (M0MCX), this video shows what he calls the “Ultimate Guide-How to install radials for vertical antennas.”
Callum’s project involves a ground radio field which will include 32 radial wires for his vertical antenna system.
A good counterpoise or ground radial system is needed for vertical antennas to realize their full potential.
Callum takes us step-by-step through the installation of his first group of 9 radials, soon to be expanded to 32 radials for the completion of this project.
